Week 3, Day 1

Distance: 3 miles

Total for the week: 3 miles

Overall total so far: 34 miles

Notes: My first run at full speed since I got sick. It was warm and sticky, but Brian and I ran it pretty hard. I had some left knee pain later in the evening, just behind the patella. I put some ice on it and that seemed to help.

Watch that knee pain! Rest, ice, ibuprofen if needed... take it easy, for real. And get off those sidewalks whenever you can. :)

For the record, my knee pain started in the back of my knee, and it was very mild, but I think as it swelled ever so slightly, it rubbed on its neighboring bones and ligaments and all of that, and BOOM. I was out of commission. Take care of yo'self!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is caused by excessive patella "flotation" due to weak tendons and/or muscles. I anticipate that as my legs get stronger, the patella won't float as much. But I used ice before my four miles today, and it was fine.

If it gets worse, I'll have to get one of those goofy knee braces with the hole over the kneecap. Then I'll look like I'm 50 or something.
